The fans were left enraptured by the DC FanDome event which was organized a few days ago. Zack Snyder’s editing of the 2017 flick Justice League was one among many bombshells that were dropped on fans. Some teasing footage had been arriving since the last few months, but the new trailer has left fans exhilarated with anticipation for the 2021 HBO Max premiere.
Zack Snyder did say that it was going to arrive and then it did. The highly anticipated trailer of Zack Snyder’s version of the Justice League is now finally with us.
The upcoming film has been intensely discussed among fans on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook and other internet platforms. A colloquial term- “Snyder Cut” is now widely associated with the film although it started as a demotic phrase in the slangy language used by fans. Snyder was exhaling courage even before the FanDome convention and had been dropping footage of his edited version of the Justice League. He got an “Okay” from Warner Media on March the 20th 2020, and from thereon he had been sharing some sneak peeks of his much-anticipated film.
Warner Media did publicly reveal that they will be allowing Zack Snyder to finish the production of Justice League in his own way. The long feature film has got a release date of 2021 on HBO Max.
Zack Snyder has revealed that “Snyder Cut” will be unveiled to fans in four parts and those who do not have a way to access HBO Max will have another way to view the film as another distribution strategy is being devised for the same.
The clamour from the DC fanbase on the internet has intensified in the last three years, and their demand for Snyder’s version of the Justice League hasn’t become obsolete considering the success of the MCU and the failure of DCEU has been taken quite personally by the DC fans. However, the demand for a Snyder’s original version of Justice League started even before Avengers: Infinity War was released. It originated after Snyder had to step down from the production scenes of Justice League following the tragic death of his daughter.
The “Man of Steel” director holds the pedigree of commencing the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) and has directed two of its high budget films “Man of Steel” and “Batman Vs Superman” and a part of 2017 film Justice League.
The 2017 flick Justice League failed to impress even the most ardent fans of DC and Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice too was ruthlessly criticized for its clichés and its vacuous way of showcasing DC’s characteristic dark tone.
When Snyder had to step down, Warner Bro. had to bring in Joss Wehdon to guide the remaining film production to its completion.
Exactly what happened when Wehdon took over is an arcane knowledge, but it became evident with the film that tone of the film was significantly altered, and jokes which were not part of the plan were added.
However, the actor who plays Cyborg Ray Fisher has accused Wehdon, Geoff Johns, and John Berg of exhibiting highly unprofessional standards during the shoot. The investigation from Warner Media regarding this is ongoing, and they haven’t commented anything on that yet.
Wehdon’ version of the Justice League produced abysmal response at the box office and was totally rejected by the critics. The frustration of fans increased many folds when Avengers Infinity War trailer was released sometime later garnering never seen before numbers on YouTube. The anger resulted in a movement and “#Release the Snyder Cut” produced $20000 through crowdfunding to pitch the idea of Snyder Cut release at comic con.
It was not until recently in 2020 that their persistent efforts turned out to be fruitful. Snyder Cut is now officially due to be released in 2021.
Zack Snyder’s cut for Justice League will be a courageous venture that will speak volumes of the audacity, tenacity and virtuosity of everyone involved in the rebuilding of a forgotten film. It is expensive as well as an emotional thing to get yourself into. It is emotional because Justice League is what Zack Snyder was working on when a heart-wrenching tragedy occurred in his life; getting back at it again is an accolade worthy endeavour. It will also be an expensive venture since Snyder’s shots had been jettisoned before VFX at the time of Justice League production. Several of the cast members that include Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and others will return to do some reshoots.
DC film studios are in the rebuilding phase since Justice League and have shown some promising signs with Aquaman, Shazam and Oscar nominee Joker. The solitary jewel in DCEU, Wonder Woman, is also awaiting the release of its sequel this fall.
It will not be the first time when DC will come back from the dead. Christopher Nolan had revived the Batman franchise with it’s the Dark Knight trilogy. The trilogy which film critics believe is profoundly difficult to recreate.
DC FanDome provided many extraordinary glimpses into upcoming films and video games involving the DC universe, but Snyder Cut is the most talked-about revelation along with Matt Reeves’s Batman who in itself has already garnered over 12 million views.
The comics giant studios in partnership with Warner Bro. is reigniting its flame and looks all set to leave no stone unturned in asserting its dominance over Marvel Studios in forthcoming years. Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on HBO Max in 2021, the trailer of which can be seen on YouTube.
