YouTube Will Now Run Ads on More Videos Without Sharing Revenues with Creators

YouTube has recently implemented a serious change in its policy regarding the monetization of the videos. YouTube has announced that it will now be running ads on the videos uploaded on the platform, no matter if the video uploader is eligible for the Partner Program of YouTube or not.

This simply means that YouTube is offering itself the rights to monetize the content uploaded by the creators. The main factor that everyone needs to understand is that the revenue generated will not be shared with the creators.

The company has announced this change in policy by updating the Terms of Service. YouTube has stated that it will start rolling out advertisements for the specific group of videos and that too from the channels that are not a qualified YouTube Partner Program. The creators that do not qualify for the partner Program of YouTube may see advertisements in some of their videos. Since they do not belong to the YouTube Partner Program, they won’t be receiving any revenue from the advertisements that will run on their channel.

This newly introduced policy will immediately roll out in the US, and by the end of this year, it will be implemented throughout the world. YouTube will keep all the payments of the US-based creators as royalties; however, there’s nothing much to say about the overseas-based creators at present, and YouTube has yet to announce more details regarding them.

A large community of users and the tech media across the world has not yet accepted this change. Gizmodo- a website that deals with the tech-related media, describes this action of YouTube as a “Naked Cash Grab.” Also, many social media accounts are demanding YouTube for the withdrawal of this policy, including many political commentators and podcasters.

Recently, ‘Some More News’ member Cody Johnston termed YouTube’s policy as ‘embarrassing’ and ‘disgusting.’ Cody Johnston (Twitter handle: @drmistercody) stated that YouTube is very cleverly running advertisements on the smaller channels and is offering them nothing in return. He stated that he reminded Google’s previous motto, not to be evil with others.

TeamYouTube (@TeamYouTube), in reply, tweeted a forum link regarding the terms and policies. The Twitter handle stated that they have listed the terms of service, section-wise for the creators, so that they may understand better about the updated YPP policy.

Conclusion

So, this was all about the recently updated policy of YouTube for its Partner Program where the content creators will not be given their shares from the revenue that will be generated from the advertisements that YouTube will run on their videos irrespective of whether the content creator qualifies for YouTube’s partner program or not.
