Yellowstone is a popular American drama television series created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson that premiered on June 20, 2018, on the Paramount Network starring Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, and Gil Birmingham. This series shows the conflicts on the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, an Indian reservation, and land developers.
The Yellowstone series follows the life of the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. Their ranch is under constant attack by those it borders — land developers, an Indian reservation, and the United States of America’s first national park. This series covers the intense study of a violent world unknown to media’s scrutiny. It is the place where land grabs earn developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world’s largest oil, natural gas, and lumber corporations. It is a place for the unsolved that are a consequence of living in the new frontier.
The third season of the show premiered on 21st June 2020, and with its last episode on 23rd August 2020, the show ended with a cliffhanger that shows John Dutton’s life in danger. The makers have kept the life of John Dutton suspense which will get disclosed in the 4th season. Along with John, a lot of other characters have their lives and fate held up in the air. The End of 3rd Season
The Dutton family was already dealing with threats, and in the 10th episode, three family members get brutally attacked one-by-one. The first attack happened when Beth Dutton (portrayed by Kelly Reily) and her secretary were busy cleaning her office. When the secretary opened a box addressed to her boss, a bomb blew right in her face.
Meanwhile, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) gets attacked by some gunmen who suddenly burst into his office and shoots him. It was brutal and shocking for the audience. Next up was John Duttonet who was helping a lady and her kid when a van pulled up beside him. A man stepped out of the van, confirmed if he was John Dutton, and shot him in the chest. The mystery man also killed the lady to wipe any evidence.
After this, Rip Wheeler tried contacting everyone but couldn’t get in touch with John, Kayce, or Beth. He then dialed Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) who rudely turned him down. As the season proceeds, the audience finds John counting his last breaths. Then he tries to take out his phone from his pocket and finds out that it had a hole. With this cliffhanger, we could only think if John Dutton will survive. Who could be the reason behind his assassination? Is Garrett Randall the one to plan John’s murder?
Expectations from the Next Season
One of the major questions that arise after the 3rd season-ending is “Does Jamie have anything to do with the murders?” About this twist, Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton) spoke to Entertainment Weekly and revealed that “It’s interesting to watch him let them try to play off their power moves.” He also said, “Jamie drops the hammer and takes his power at the right moment. The scene of Jamie allowing the sale of the land was one of my favorites shooting the whole series.” Wes also dropped hints about Jamie having an identity crisis later in the show.
Talking about shooting and the scripting for next season, creator Taylor Sheridan told Deadline, “The plan was to start in June. The plan’s been to start in June every single year, to be honest with you. And every year, something happens, and we can’t start until August. The one benefit of this year, I had written most of Season 4, and then I stopped at episode seven to figure out when we’re starting because I have to factor in weather. I have to know if we’re going to be there in November and December because if we are, I have to write snow into the storyline.”
Moreover, he also hinted that the show might have six seasons in total. “Well, I know how it ends. You can’t walk in circles, waiting to get there, because the show will stagnate.” He, further, said “Can that be another two seasons beyond this? It could. I don’t see this as a procedural show. So, it’s not something that we could extend indefinitely. I don’t think anyone would want to do that; you’d cheapen the product. I haven’t had that conversation with the network or the studio yet. I’m sure it’s coming, but I would think that you would want this to end on an upswing as opposed to a plateau or a descent.”
Season 4 Dates
The first season of Yellowstone premiered on June 20, 2018, the second season released on June 19, 2019, and the third one dropped on June 21, 2020. So, observing the schedule for all three seasons, we can assume that Season 4 will be back next year in June. There’s a strong chance Season 4 may follow the trend and arrive at the end of June 2021. But there are considerable chances of delay due to the global pandemic. However, the Yellowstone still has a lot of time to prepare their show to launch next year.
