Season 4 of Riverdale was supposed to have 22 episodes, but due to the current health crisis, the production was shut down, and the show ran only for 19 episodes. The upcoming season will take over where the story was cut short in the last season, and it is expected to release on January 20, 2021. Although it has never happened before and it was expected that the delay would have a detrimental effect on the show’s popularity. Still, the fans seem even more excited than before for the next season.
Season 4 was necessary because the fans were expecting that the mystery of the videotape murders will finally be resolved, but unfortunately, that never happened. The last season’s finale was focused on mundane events like graduation and prom because of the unexpected delay. Although these are also essential parts of the show and crucial for the teens of Riverdale’s overall character development, the fans had high expectations from the finale. Unfortunately, the conclusion did not live up to the hype.
The recent reports suggest that there might be a time skip after wrapping up the last season. It is intriguing since the show’s popularity will be tested once the story goes beyond the High School walls, and the characters are given more freedom to express themselves. The time skip is tricky since it can also prove to be detrimental for the show as well.
Season 5 will show the life of the characters in their 20s after the time skip. It is even possible that the story always moves from the titular town. Regardless of what fans might feel, the show won’t be the same anymore, and it might be heartbreaking for a lot of them. In the first four seasons, the show has been rooted in Riverdale’s small town; the recent change is undoubtedly not easy to understand.
However, it would be wrong to presume that such plot twists aren’t expected from a show like Riverdale. The fans have got used to such twists and turns, and it’s nothing new. The show’s creator even surprised fans with a social media post that hinted at the death of the protagonist Archie. However, it might seem highly unlikely that the show will kill such an important character, but Riverdale’s unpredictability makes one unsure about such presumptions. Irrespective of how true the current reports turn out to be, the upcoming season will undoubtedly be just as good as the previous ones.
