What Happened on “Fargo” Season 4 Episode 2?

The episode “Land of Taking and Killing” expanded the menage and intensified the thrill as the plot is all set to get deeper.

The title of the episode is actually a dialogue spoken by one of the new family members Gaetano Fadda (played by Salvatore Esposito). He says the line when he realizes that all Americans have become chicken-hearted.

Well, in the episode, we all come to realize again that Josto condemns the hit from time to time. In the episode, his men blew up the plan to murder the doctor named Harvard (played by Stephen Spencer) who had refused to check Don Fadda in the last episode. Instead of killing the doctor, the gang murdered innocent bystanders which also included a rich man from high society. What bailed them out was the fact that Josto had bought a cop suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The cop named Detective Odis Weff was assigned to the case which proved out to be a stroke of luck for Josto.

Josto is now planning to expand his political power by marrying into the family of a local politician in the exchange of a promise that Josto will provide the aid to the politician when he stands for mayor elections.

In another scene, Gaetano claimed responsibility for a murder that nobody knew about. He said that after killing communists on Mussolini’s behalf during the time of the second world war, he killed II Duce once Americans had invaded the land. He gave a box full of teeth as evidence of his crime.

Later on, Loy Cannon and Doctor Senator decide to attack a slaughterhouse run by some Italians.

Another family that is expanded on the show is the Smutnys. Young Ethelred was over the moon when she learnt that her con-aunt Zelmare Roulette (played by Karen Aldridge) and her jail time friend Swanee Capp (played by Kelsey Asbille) had arrived at the family funeral site after their release from the jail.

What we cannot know for sure at this moment is which character will play a crucial role in the climax and which characters are merely telling a side story.

One of the newly introduced intriguing characters is the nurse Oraetta Mayflower who is speculated to be the crucial factor that will affect the ongoing gang-truce storyline.

The uncertainties pervaded throughout the plot is one of the fascinating facets of “Fargo.” Noah Hawley has drawn many inspirations from the noir tv shows and films and especially from the works of Coen Brothers. One of the straightforward inspirations was the use of cattle guns for slaughterhouse workers which paid a nice tribute to the weapon used by one of the most iconic Coen Brothers’ characters Anton Chigurh in the film No Country for Old Men.

“Fargo” is climbing the hill without showcasing any signs of a drop. Catch all the action on FX at 9 PM every Sunday night.
