The Procedure to Send and Receive Text Messages on a Chromebook To start receiving and sending text messages on your Chromebook, you will first have to enable the setting on your Chromebook computer. For that, you need to pair your Android smartphone with your Chromebook computer. Also, make sure that you are running the Android 5.1 or higher level on your smartphone. And along with this, Chrome OS 71 on your computer is also required, and both of your devices should be signed into the same Google account. The Steps for Getting Started With Receiving and Sending Text Messages on a Chromebook Here are the steps that you will have to follow if you want to send and receive text messages on your Chromebook computer:

  • Firstly, open the “Settings” on your Chromebook by clicking on the “Status” tab given in the bottom right corner of your screen. And now, click on the “Gear” icon.

  • After opening the Settings menu, under the “Connected Devices” section, go through the “Android Phone” option and then click on the “Set up” button placed beside it.  

  • Now, a new pop-up window will open up on your screen, and here, you will have to select your device under the “Select a Device” drop-down menu.


  • After selecting your device, select the blue “Accept and Continue” button.

  • And after this, you will be asked to enter your Google password. Type in your password.

  • And now, on the next screen, you will see a message stated, “All Set.” You can now close the window by clicking on the “Done” option.


  • And then, you will need to navigate back to the Settings menu. And this time, you can see a new option, “Verify” in the Settings menu. Select the option and then turn on your smartphone.


  • After this, you will receive a notification on both of your devices that says, “Your devices are linked.”

  • You are now ready to enable the SMS sync. And for that, you will have to install Google’s Android Messages app on your handset. If you have the app installed on your device, then you can skip this step.

  • Now, open the “Settings” on your Chromebook computer and then select the option of “Selected Devices.” Here, select your Android Smartphone and click on the toggle switch for the “Messages” option. And then, select the “Set Up” button.

  • Next, a new window with a QR code will open up on your computer screen. Scan the code through your smartphone to verify the connection. To scan the code, at first, you will have to launch the Messages app on your smartphone.

  • Tap on the three-dotted icon given in the top-right corner of your smartphone screen. In the drop-down menu, tap the option of “Messages for Web.”

  • Now, select the “QR Code Scanner” button on your smartphone and point your smartphone’s camera towards the QR code that you can see on your Chromebook screen.

  • And after a few seconds, you will be able to see your messages on your Chromebook screen. Here, you can now compose and view all your messages.
