Almost every country, culture and industry have some Vampire lore of their own. They have a significant impact on various eras and continue to hold a considerable interest among millions of people. Vampire stories always have intrigued the human imagination for centuries, and it is not surprising that they continue to do so even after being in the limelight for such a long time. One can explore them through several mediums, but the best way to do it is through manga and anime. Both of them do a great job of illustrating and exploring the exciting genre. Today we look at some of the most notable works on the vampire in manga and anime.
Midnight Secretary
In the manga, Midnight Secretary, we see Kayo Satozuka and the vampire, Kyouhei Touma, in an office romance. Things between them get complicated when Kyouhei falls in love with Kayo. She too soon follows, and they then find themselves in a spot since they know that there are so many differences between them. The manga not only is focused on romance, but there is a lot of action too. Both of them try to find a way to love each other without putting anyone in danger.
Millennium Snow
Millennium Snow is a manga that explores the Vampire-Human-Werewolf love triangle. The vampire, Touya Kanou is appalled by the traditional way of drinking blood which dictates that one has to find a human partner and exchange fluids as they live together for thousands of years. He refuses to do so, while on the other hand we have Chiyuki Matsouka who knows that she will die of cardiac arrest at a young age. The werewolf Satsuki has a great sense of humor and is the romantic antagonist in the manga. It explores the roller-coaster ride of the complicated relationship that these three share and is good enough to make one lose track of time.
Dance in the Vampire Bund
One of the premises of Dance in the Vampire Bund is that humanity is the worst, and the story surely can make anyone uncomfortable. The manga is about the queen of Vampires, Mina Tsepes who tries to construct the Vampire Bund, an island off the coast of Tokyo. She hopes that the vampires will finally be able to live there peacefully without any interference. Along with her bodyguard Werewolf, Aki, she is determined to make her plans work as she wishes and there is little left to chance. The matters are already arranged so she can achieve her goals.
Hellsing: Ultimate
Hellsing: Ultimate is focused on the plotline of the manga, unlike its prequels. The story of the show is quite similar to Death Note stylistically. It recounts the story of how Alucard, who is the most powerful vampire, has come in servitude under the vampire-hunter Hellsing family. If you are someone who has watched Castlevania, then you might like Hellsing: Ultimate as well. The two shows have several similarities and give the same vibes.
Vampire Hunter D & Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
D, a vampire father – human mother hybrid roams the earth as his lineage is condemned to do so. He is an ideal supernatural hunter thanks to his mixed lineage which gives him all the powers of a vampire but none of the weaknesses making him extremely powerful. The post-apocalyptic world that he has to roam undoubtedly needs more like him as the humans are barely surviving in the cruel world infested with supernatural beings.
The Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a dark fantasy movie that came out in 2000. The film did well in America and was received positively even by the critics. The creators were aware of the growing demand for a follow-up of Vampire Hunter D, so the movie was made as a result. When the manga came out in 1983, it changed everything for the genre and opened new possibilities for others to follow. The film was an example of one of its ever-growing influences.
Vassalord
Vassalord is one of the very few mangas that has a refreshing take on the vampires. It introduces us to cyborg vampire hunter priest, Charlie, who is himself a vampire. His biggest desire has always been to become a Vatican priest which is not so easy for someone like him. There is another vampire named Reyflo, who is a playboy. Now, Charlie wants to drink his blood without being caught up in his seduction games. The show has some fantastic action sequences so even though you might not enjoy the romance, the show will still have a lot to offer. Out of all the other manga or anime, Vassalord is unique enough to stand out.
