It was a story of a Chinese legend Hua Mulan. On the other hand, the live-action version of Disney’s film Mulan was released in the year 2020. It is an adaptation to Disney’s 1998 animated movie Mulan.
Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan is based on a poem, and it might be very close to it, but it is different from the animated version of Mulan released in the year 1998. Both of the films tell Mulan’s story as she tricks a man into joining the Imperial Army. It was an animated musical film and included various famous songs. However, the remake of the animated Mulan, released in the year 2020, is quite different. In the 2020 remake, the film has shown to be a serious war movie with several combat scenes. A similar part of both of the movies is: the film shows Mulan’s story as a woman finding her place in Imperial China.
If we talk about the 1998 animated film Mulan, It gained huge fame for its original songs. The film also included various famous and colorful characters that have surrounded Mulan and her commander. Even after acquiring a great success, some people criticized Mulan for its inaccurate portrayal of Chinese culture because it was somewhere different from its poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”

The Mulan Character In Live-Action Vs. Animation There are many differences between both of the movies, live-action Mulan and animated Mulan. The animated Mulan was voiced by Ming-Na Wen, a girl whose parents wanted her to get married, but she was not prepared for this life. After joining the Army, Mulan became a better warrior as compared to other warriors alongside her because of her cleverness and talent. On the other hand, the live-action Mulan was blessed with supernatural abilities. According to the film, she was close to her sister, but her parents misunderstood her. She also faced unacceptable situations.
Mulan 2020’s Music Vs. The Animated Movie In terms of music, the animated Mulan wins over the live-action Mulan because of the better and original songs of all Disney movies. The animated Mulan included an excellent orchestration which was composed by Jerry Goldsmith and several colorful supporting actors. On the other hand, fans were disappointed after watching 2020’s Mulan, which did not include memorable and historical songs and had only live-action instead. After considering the facts and reviews of both the movies, we have concluded that the 1998’s animated Mulan is a better movie as compared to the 2020’s live-action remake Mulan.
