Due to the ongoing pandemic, more and more users have started wearing face masks. It has made it difficult for them to unlock their iPhone and other Apple devices using Face ID.
The first beta preview of iOS 14.5 for the developers is available now. With this latest update, Apple has introduced a feature that allows iPhone users to unlock their Apple devices through Face ID while using the Apple Watch. However, there are many ways available to iPhone users that they can use to unlock their iPhones. Face ID became an obstacle and a significant issue due to the pandemic, which forced people to wear face masks to protect themselves from any infection. Soon, the people will get the solution for Face ID.
AS people started wearing face masks to follow government instructions, it became clear that Face ID will create a problem for iPhone users when unlocking their devices. Apple introduced a software update in an attempt to fix this problem. However, the software update proved to be only a short term fix. It only allowed the users to use a code while bypassing the Face ID to unlock their device. Apple rolled out this option to skip Face ID as part of its software update iOS 13.5.
Now, Apple has introduced the iOS 14.5 developer beta. With this, it seems clear that the company has prepared another solution for the Face mask. Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal has spotted a new feature to Unlock Apple Watch in the latest iOS update. Undoubtedly, when the iPhone user wearing an Apple Watch that is unlocked will look at the iPhone, it will open the device even if the user is wearing a Face mask. If your Apple Watch is locked, then it means that your iPhone will also remain closed as the authorities failed to verify it. Additionally, it may be possible that the users can use Apple Watch to unlock their iPhone only and not other features related to Face ID.
iOS 14.5 Developer Beta: When it is available
iOS 14.5 is available as the developer beta only. No one knows when it will be made available for everyday users. Also, there are no clear indications that when the company will introduce the latest feature, Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch. All these previews have been introduced only for the developers right now. The developers will look into the issues and their severity. After determining the severity of the problems, the company will decide how and when to make them available to ordinary users. However, if we look at the trends, then Apple always roll out updates every month and frequently. For example, Apple introduced iOS 14.2 in November and iOS 14.3 in December. Following the same pattern, the company introduced iOS 14.4 in January. So, it can be said that Apple can introduce iOS 144.5 this month, i.e., February.
It is worth mentioning here that the face mask’s feature is not the only thing that is to arrive with an iOS update soon. Instead, the company has recently informed that it is preparing to bring a privacy and security feature, App Transparency. The feature is expected to arrive for iPadOS, iOS, and tvOS in the coming months. However, it is not known whether the App transparency will remain a part of the latest iOS 14.5 update or not. The users have to wait to see anything regarding it. The users looking for any solution to unlock their iPhones while wearing a face mask will find it in this latest update. However, it applies to the users who have Apple Watches also at the same time.
