9 Easy Steps to Take to Protect Your Data

The most valuable thing that any device can have is data. Every day we use different devices like mobile, tablets, and computers. We use them to take pictures, do shopping, create reports, send emails, and much more. Thus, we can say that these devices have lots of personal and private data in them that can be a very big problem if these devices get compromised, and all its data gets stolen by hackers.

But there are a few steps that you can do to protect your devices and its data. So today, we are going over 9 easy steps that you can take to protect your data.

Apply Software Updates

The first thing that you can do to protect your data is keep your operating systems and apps updated. These updates improve their performance and contain patches to remove vulnerabilities that have been discovered in them. So do keep them updated if you don’t want your personal data to be stolen because of any security flaw in them.

Create Strong Passwords

The next step that you can take to keep your data secure is to create and use strong passwords to lock your devices. Do not use the same passwords for all your devices. Instead, create different and unique passwords for all your devices to keep your personal information secured.

Lock Your Apps

There are many apps on our phone that contain lots of sensitive information in them, like our bank account numbers, card numbers, etc. Besides this, we also use our mobiles to take pictures and chat with our friends. Thus, it is very important that we lock such apps on our phones to protect our data and privacy from others.

Install Antivirus

When it comes to security, it is important that we must have an antivirus installed on our devices. Using them, we can protect your devices from viruses and malware that might try to compromise our devices to steal our data and personal information. So, if you want to keep your data secure, make sure you have installed a secured and reliable antivirus in your device.

Disable Pop-Up Notifications

Disabling pop-up notifications from apps is a simple way to protect your sensitive data that might pop up on your phone screen even when it is locked. Disable notifications to protect your important text messages and social media messages from people who might try to see these messages while you are away from your phone.

Keep Your Browsing Safe

If you use free Wi-Fi hotspots then your browsing data might get tracked by hackers. To make sure that your data stays protected, use a VPN while using a public hotspot. VPN will encrypt all your browsing data and hide your location from getting tracked. But before using any VPN service, make sure it is reliable. Otherwise, your privacy might be compromised because of using a VPN.

Don’t Browse Unsecured Websites

If you want to keep your data safe from hackers and trackers, make sure you only visit the sites you trust and not the ones that are unsecured. When you visit an unsecured website, your browser gives you a warning that the site is not secured. It means that the site does not encrypt the user’s data, and your data might be stolen by a hacker or a tracker. So, make sure you visit only those secured sites and not the unsecured ones.

Encrypt Your Data

The next step you can take to protect your data is to use apps that encrypt the sent user data. For example, you can use apps like Signal and Telegram for chatting with your friends. These apps provide end-to-end encryption and ensure all your sent messages, images, videos, and files remain secured.

Create a Backup

If something happens to your device due to which you might have to reset your device, your data is deleted by a virus or ransomware, or you lose your device. You can get your data back if you have created a backup of it. Make sure you have created a backup of your important data and files on an external drive or secure cloud storage to restore your data to your device.
